Petr is the head of the Department of Social Psychiatry at the National Institute of Mental Health, CZ. After graduating in Social Policy and Social Work at the Charles University, he became one of the Bakala Foundation scholars and went to the King’s College London to pursue his PhD in mental health economics. Petr’s main expertise is in psychiatric epidemiology, health economics, suicidology and stigma and discrimination. He has been involved in the current Czech mental health care reform and his aim is to facilitate evidence-based development in this area through high-quality research. He was awarded European Psychiatric Association Research Prize 2017 for the best paper in the category “Psychiatric epidemiology, social psychiatry and psychotherapeutic interventions in mental disorders”.
